Experience LA is an urban immersion that provides an opportunity for students to embark on a three day experiential learning trip in the heart of Los Angeles. Centered around the theme of narrative, participants become acquainted with the social realities of diverse communities in Los Angeles while developing a biblical understanding of justice, compassion, reconciliation, and stewardship. Open to students of all backgrounds and interests, Experience LA challenges participants to think critically about issues that affect the disenfranchised while learning about their involvement or contribution to these problems. Experience LA endeavors to encourage a more comprehensive understanding of the world around us, and examine the implications of the privilege or disadvantage that social location provides, while also seeking to help students cultivate a heart for the city and its people.
Experience LA trips typically include visits to nonprofits, museums, historical locations, and a service component all within different areas of LA. These trips highly value relationship building, mutual learning, and reflection on how LA's issues should matter to us as Christ followers. During Experience LA trips, lodging, food, and transportation are afforded through the trip cost. These trips usually go from 8am Friday to around 3pm Sunday.
